Fargegaten - The Colour Street is one of Stavanger´s most popular and instagram friendly attractions, and in the evening one of the best party areas in Stavanger, with all its bars and restaurants. It is quite easy to find in the center of Stavanger. If you start up by Sølvberget in the middle of the pedestrian area and walk in the direction and further on from the Valberg Tower towards the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, you will meet Fargegaten, or Øvre Holmegate which is its real name. The area is packed with bars, cafes and restaurants, a lot of small boutiques, a barber shop and tourists, securing their next instagram post. The project started in 2005 and had a four year journey through the bureaucracy. An artist was used to plan the colours and combination for each building which then had to be approved by the building owners and the city council. The street was closed for traffic and later became a pedestrian area with bars and restaurants. The are has later expanded and now also includes many small boutiques and speciality shops.
